Virtual Administrative Assistant

Hi, I’m Katie!

I live in the Niagara area, about half an hour away from the Falls, with my husband, our three kids, and our very elderly Yorkie, Pippin. When I’m not wrangling my house full of kids or working, I have a lot of string-based hobbies. I macrame (pictured), embroider, sew, quilt, knit, and crochet, and recently I picked up a “learn to needle felt” kit, so that’s next! I also love to read, do puzzles, and colour. If it’s something you can find in a retirement home, I love it!

Becoming a virtual admin assistant was never really the plan: first, I went to university intending to become a high school English and History teacher, but there was no demand for teachers at all at that time, so I simply got a BA in English. After that, I stayed home with my kids for the next ten years.

When my youngest started school in 2023, I went back to school for a one-year post-graduate certificate for teaching English as a second language. Halfway through the course, the government cut the number of international students allowed in Canada significantly. Therefore, demand for ESL teachers dropped hugely.

I searched for a job for almost a year, before I found something unexpected: a close therapist friend of mine, a university dormmate, had been lamenting about needing to find an admin but not knowing how to start. We went on a trip together, and on the way home she suggested that I try being her admin — I’m known for being very organized, and the trip must have reminded her. So far, a year in, it’s going very well!

Since then, I’ve collected three more clients, including Heather, and I make sure that everyone’s needs are met. It’s important to me that my therapists are less concerned about the boring details of having a clinic, so they can give more brain space to their clients.

I’ll be here as your point of contact when you want to make an appointment, ask a question, or need any other kind of help. Never hesitate to reach out, that’s what I’m here for!
